“He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field, but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away. So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also. And the servants of the master of the house came and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have weeds?’ He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ So the servants said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and gather them?’ But he said, ‘No, lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them. Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, “Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.”’”” Matthew 13:24-30 ESV
95 percent of the time I mind my business but you see the other times I don’t, I can’t help it. My big sister and friend walked into church with her pretty daughter this Sunday morning, after exchanging greetings I got really distracted by the dressing of her daughter and commented. I told her not to come to church wearing a skirt as short as that anymore, as it is very distracting(call me mean, I am okay with that). Mama looked at me and said, I don’t like the way you correct my daughter, you are going to ruin her day. Well, I am glad to announce that pretty girl always comes to church with covered clothes now, and by the way, mama turned out to be my bestie.
As parents we have a responsibility of sowing good seeds into our children, otherwise, the world will sow weeds and we will only reap what has been sown. A seed of resilience has never been sown yet a child that has never worked uses the latest everything. We are letting them reap without sowing. There comes seed time before harvest. Decency and modesty are values of the past, we just want to blend in. Beware if we help the enemy sow his weeds, we will reap what has been sown.
The enemy is never weary, he is busy sowing weeds among our good seeds. In the parable of the weeds, the master advised don’t take the weed out just yet lest you take out the wheat as well, but let them grow together and then we can carefully gather the weeds and burn them. The enemy is sowing lust, greed, pornography, hatred. But we can outdo and outshine the enemy as we continue to sow and spread seeds of godliness, contentment, decency, integrity, and love everywhere we go. When we as children of light shine, the seeds that the enemy has sown will be gathered and burned. Let your light so shine!
